Let's Play Catch Up

The one upside of Hurricane Sandy shuttin' the city down is I finally have some time to go through the many, many events of the past month and process them.

So let's play a little catch up with a cute little video of 'The Lamothe House', the hotel we stayed at during our New Orleans trip two weeks ago

Jeanne from the Block

Lanvin's logo feel a little too J-Lo to me

I know it for Jeanne Lanvin, but the type and that yellow gold just say "Love Don't Cost a Thang" tinted wireless sunglasses. Ugh.

* Credit to my co-worker for the title. Wish I could claim it. Dang.

It's True!

Thanks Emergency Compliment for noticing!

The Face Gives Good Promo

Three beautiful promos stand before me, but I only have one place in my heart for all this!

Wow, Naomi is really bringing the evil chic out!

February is for Lovers... of fashion and drama! Can't wait!

Justin Jumps, Jessica Just There

(Photo: People.com)

I'm not a huge fan of either of these two (with the exception of Justin Timberlake's randomly hilarious work on Saturday Night Live) but man is this People Magazine exclusive so indicative of their relationship.

He got way too much energy, and she is... present.

I Can Dig It

(Photo: Oprah.com)

They say nothing's harder than finding a needle in a haystack.

As an amateur reseller,I say, "Bring on that haystack, honey!" You never know where a Brikin is hiding.

This mentality was reinforced and rewarded yesterday when Mr Taurus and I stumbled across a end of season vintage courtyard sale. A vintage store stacked piles of end of season deadstock in its courtyard and swung open the doors to the general public. Each item: $3.

We couldn't resist. Others in line did not share our enthusiasm. Excessive mounds of misshapes can be daunting, true, but for me and my partner (and burgeoning business partner) the thrill is in the hunt. And hunt we did, honey. We found some real kills in the drifts of duds and all was fair game. Bargain hunters came and went but none preyed like our party. Most felt instant intimidation or laziness and gave up before they really began. More for us.

All in all we walked away with over a dozen chic car coats, tailored trousers, men's bomber jackets and sleek pencil skirts.

To the scavenger go the spoils.

Benetton Ad Employs Topical Punch

With the presidential debate still ringing in our ears and news outlets reporting more and more world economy doom and gloom, unemployment remains the big issue on everyone's mind.

Nowhere is this more evident than in parts of Europe with an Eurozone unemployment rate at 11% in August. Greece, Spain and Italy have been particularly hard hit.

It should come as no surprise then that Italian fashion label, Benetton, no stranger to political and controversial ads, has put this issue, with a major focus on unemployable young people, front and center

(Photos courtesy of Benetton)

This is a great opportunity to give a voice to the struggles of the freshly minted workforce and to support their innovation through funding by a large backer like Benetton

Plus they got a free suit out of it. Bring on the interviews!

You Must be Out of Your Sweet Skull

I'm not one of those faux-punk fashion fags that thinks anything with skulls on it is instantly street cool. But I was struck dead in my tracks by this archaeological quality piece... made of chocolate!

But caution kids, this ain't for bulk distribution to trick or treaters, this quality Belgian chocolate cranium will cost ya!

(Belgian chocolate life like skull from Cannibal Confections(!), $325 at Aha Life, http://www.ahalife.com/product/2251/chocolate-skull/)

Should Metro Cards Get Commercial Makeovers?

(Photo: MTA.info)

The MTA, perpetually struggling for money (well, at least since 2006) is getting a makeover and it's starting with everyone's favorite purveyor of colorful pants, The GAP

One in ten new metrocards purchases will be shellacked in GAP drag to celebrate the newly remodelled 34th Street store. And the best part?  The card is worth 20% off any purchase at any GAP. (Here's your chance to nab some of that great Saturday's colab!)

More money for The MTA and in your new colorful corduroy pockets? Win/Win!

What's your take on this soon to be reoccurring trend?

Solange "Losing You" Makes Me Lose My Cool

Shakin' my ass at my desk.     Co-workers think I nutty

PS: Sol Angel, love the brick print Moschino suit, girl

Hedi Does Saint Laurent Drag

First off ignore the hats. Everyone found them distracting....

But the 'monumnetal' premiere collection Hedi Slimane designed for Saint Laurent seems, well, more like a thesis on well worn YSL motifs

All the tried and true tropes (Verushcka safari jackets: Check; Betty Catroux: Check; Le Smoking: Check) were there minus some ornate Ballet Russe details and models of color (Seriously:
M. Saint Laurent loved a model of color and with this topic still hotly debated this was a huge miss for Slimane)

I'm not saying the collection isn't salable and that Slimane's signature aspiration slim fit wasn't present, I'm just sayin' it ain't re-inventing the wheel.

And that was a lot of hype for an homage.

Ready or Not.......

He's Not Heavy, He's My Spring Collection

Why         So

Heavy???

(Clockwise from top: Haider Ackermann, Givenchy, Giambattista Valli, Balenciaga)

Perhaps after years of responding to negative body image pushing, designers have decided to pack on the pounds, cuzwhen you trim the fat from the Paris runways a significant trend is weighing in: Spring 2013 is gonna be heavy, man

(Layered, heavyweight satin and fur shoes at CĂ©line. Summer calls, ladies!)

Do designers wanna wrap up and hide from a world riddled with political unrest and shaky economies? Do they figure the impending Mayan doomsday in December means none of this mess will make it to stores anyway?

Whatever the reason coats, layers and heavier fabrics abound for the first half of the year

(Rochas)

Jesus, is that velvet????
