A Pox IN All Your Houses

Who knew smallpox could be so beautiful? Sculptor Luke Jerram did. His series of diseases rendered in blown glass are marvelous little reinterpretations of what plagues us

(Smallpox, untitled mutation, HIV)

Created after lengthy consultation with virologists, disease models, and text book images, these clear wonders allow you to put your decorative money where your foot and mouth disease is

 (Foot and Mouth Disease)

But is this art once again forcing us to examine what makes us squeamish or is this flagrant? After all we've always used art as a way to process and express what's scary and foreign to us. In this case it's foreign bacteria and viruses.

My only quip is the E.coli look like something Delia Deetz would have sculpted

(E.coli happens)

Jerram’s sculptures go on display February 1st
at the National Centre for Craft and Design in the U.K.

I've Been BUSY!

I know, I know. I've been neglecting my blogging responsibilities lately but it has been crazy with event coverage, trips and visits and one hell of a party.

Speaking of events, I covered the Elements Perfume Show yesterday and learned two things

1. Perfume is a mulit-billion dollar business that is always look to push technology while balancing the importance of nature.

2. Don't ever bring your asthmatic friend to a perfume event. Like ever.

Check Out My Bomber Piece on Viral Fashion

I've been a busy bee this Winter writing for a bunch of sites on the side. Hey, I never claimed to be faithful.

Anywho, when I wrote this bit for VIRAL Fashion about bomber jackets being the perfect transitional outerwear for right now it wasn't some blue face -2 outside. Bastard Old Man Winter all sneak attack and all.

Well despite all that, bundle up with your boo and give my piece your full attention and then some love:

Get It Get It: Kirna Zabete Tweed Shift on Bib + Tuck

It's cray cray cold out and while we'd all like to wrap up in blankets and boyfriends and forget the day, alas someone gotta pay the electric bill. So it's off to work. Trudge, trudge, trudge.

But wouldn't it be great to have a new cute as a button tweed and faux leather shift under that wool wonder of coat?

Plus how easy to play with when it's Spring and Old Man Winter stops torturing our bones?

Run over to my Bib + Tuck page and nab this NEW with Tags lil' vers beauty from the sold out Kirna Zabete for Target collection.

While I was in Baltimore....

This happened....

Michelle Obama wore a Thom Browne coat to the inauguration and shut it the F down!

(Stride of Pride)

Choosing a designer most widely known for his menswear and the reinvention of men's suiting proportion (don't believe me, check out the Fall 2013 men's lines in Milan and Paris. It's all about the Thom Browne-esque cropped pant and fit) is a bold fashion leap. This coat says "authority, risk taker, structure and strength." LOVE LOVE LOVE

The accessories were perfect pops of feminine contrast and I liked how the slim raspberry leather gloves shout back to Sasha and Malia's coats. Perfection, Shelly.

However, not everything was sartorial bliss. The Spring 2013 Haute Couture shows started in Paris this weekend and THIS happened:

Look I know this is gonna be a controversial stance since the rest of the fashion press seems to have drank the Kool-Aid or is too frightened to challenge the favorite son of LVMH's Bernard Arnault, but this is BAD

Why must Raf Simons take my beloved Dior and make it look like 90's polyester nite out looks from the Deb?

Oh god, tonal stockings, really?????

and sheer netting right at your junk, that's what upper crust couture clients want, right?

Raf, get it right, please! This 'New Look' is making M. Dior spin.

Sending You Some Three Day Weekend LOVE

Three Things I'm Eying from Viktor & Rolf Men's Fall 2013

If you're even vaguely familiar with It Can't All Be Dior, you know we're BIG Viktor & Rolf fans 'round these parts. The latest menswear collection of course did not disappoint and in a sea of prints, textures and mix + match materials, these three items particularly got our goat

1. Those ribbed satin paneled pants. Structured formal on the top, party slim on the bottom.

2. The signature eyeglass print goes intarsia on a raw edge turtleneck. Those pants are quite slick too.

3. Long nosed demure hat wearing mythical men adorn a duffel. Weekend trips and gym visits just got a lot more conversational.

Carven Men's Fall 2013

Dear co-workers,

as I write my annual performance self-evaluation (ooh, fancy talk!) I am also perusing the Carven Fall 2013 menswear collection which Guillaume Henry (French for hot piece) says is inspired by "modern officewear"

Thus, one of my goals for 2013 is to incorporate the following into 'office appropriate'

The Watercooler Killer Snood

The Xerox Blood Splatter Coat

And of course the Casual Friday Strangler Gloves

All in a lumbering stance sure to get the attention of my superiors. Promotion!

On My Desk Today: Monday January 14th

This is exactly how Monday work day feels today

Way to understand my feelings, #Diesel t-shirt

Why Can't I Quit You Target Designer Colabs?

It is no secret that I along with most folks am suffering from designer colab fatigue and just when I thought I'd shook it off, Mr. Prabal Gurung has to go and make this chic printed sweatshirt (G'ah! My weakness revealed!!) just a callin' my name

(Child)

While I would argue this looks more 'Givenchy on a budget', until Mr. Tisci does indeed team up with Uniqlo (tell me that wouldn't be hot?!) this sassy topper is where all my pennies will go come February 10th.

Good thing I got a Target gift card for X-mas.

Is There a Fashion Trend That Should End?

I'm writing a piece now on fashion trends of 2012 that SHOULD NOT carry into 2013.

Something make your eye twitch? I'd love thoughts and suggestions.

Cheers
